Phil was the grandest of persons. Integrity, intellect, sense of humor, compassion and many other excellent qualities. We have known him since before he and Ginny married. We treasured their visits to Georgia. He will be missed!

Mr. Dorth was the superintendent when I taught in Concordia. He was a great educator and respected by the students and staff. He even cleaned the snow from my car one snowy day so I could get on the road home before the storm got worse. He and Ron worked together on various projects.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Ginny and their family today and all the days that follow.

A SOFT AND SWEET MEMORIES    STANDING SPRAY was sent by On & Tran family on August 18, 2016

Message from On Tran

My family and I would like to express our deepest sympathies to the Dorth Family. Mr. Dorth had a profound impact on me as well as on many others. I was introduced to Mr. and Mrs. Dorth by Rev. and Mrs. Alfred Rodewald in 1981. Both Mr. and Mrs. Dorth welcomed me with open arms, love, support, and guidance throughout my high school years at CHS. Both of them had played an instrumental role on my education. Without their love, support and guidance, I would not be what where I am today. On one occasion, I was out sick and missed quite a few days of school. Mr. Dorth had brought the homework to my house to ensure I was not falling behind on the school works. On other occasions, Mr. and Mrs. Dorth took me to a Kansas City Chief’s football game and a few museums. On our 1984 class senior trip, he accompanied our class to Lake Ozark and we enjoyed water skiing. He and the other members on the board of education had approved to waive the 21 unit requirement for me since I was not able to obtain the 21 units prior to reaching the age of 21. As a result of their decision, I was able to continue on to my college education at Central Missouri State University where I received a degree in Business Administration in Computer Information System. To this day, I continue to have a rewarding and challenging career in Information Technology.

My condolences to the Dorth family and friends. I had the opportunity to work with Phil on the MARE board for the last several year and admired his willingness to stay in the fray long after he could have moved on in retirement. He was dedicated to rural school districts and the children we serve. His loss will be felt statewide. The Macon County R-IV School District and I personally extend our condolences, thanks, and gratitude to the family for allowing Phil to be a continual part of bettering rural education.
