Wallace Vernon Obituary

Wallace Vernon, 93 of Eldon, Missouri passed away Thursday, September 24, 2020 in Eldon, Missouri.  He was born November 23, 1926 in Eldon, Missouri the son of the late Chester S. and Lois A. (Smith) Vernon.  On September 9, 1951 in Eldon, Missouri he was united in marriage to Marjorie Ann (Tompkins) Vernon who preceded him in death on March 30, 2015.

 

Survivors include,

 

Children, Gregory & Pam Vernon of  Batesville, IN ; Dane & Sharene Vernon of Eldon, MO; Patricia & Gerard Dudenhoeffer of Holts Summit, MO

 

Grandchildren, Lucas Dudenhoeffer, Nick Dudenhoeffer, Jacob Dudenhoeffer, Zack Dudenhoeffer, Annie Dudenhoeffer, Trevor Vernon, Timothy Vernon, Erin Reder, Jeffrey Vernon, Kathleen Miklius

 

Great Grandchildren, Riley Reder, Liam Reder, Charlotte Reder, Adalynn Reder,  Travis Haslag, Jacob Mortensen, Carliegh Mortensen, Lucas Dudenhoeffer, Aubriegh Dudenhoeffer, Lilli Vernon, Owen Vernon, Olivia Vernon, Claire Vernon, Jackson Dudenhoeffer, Micah Dudenhoeffer, Edison Dudenhoeffer

 

Wallace was publisher of the Eldon Advertiser for more than 60 years and wrote a weekly column.  He was also owner operator of six other community newspapers.  He served as an alderman for the city of Eldon, and was on the board of directors of US Bank in Eldon, MO.    Wallace served in the United States Air Force.  He was a member of the First Christian Church of Eldon, MO; a member of the Eldon Lions Club serving as president.  He was Regional Director of the National Newspaper Association; he received a Medal of Honor with the Missouri School of Journalism; was a member and past president of the Missouri Press Association where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.  Wallace loved painting and working with stain glass and playing his violin with the Lake Area Orchestra.  He also was a licensed pilot and greatly enjoyed flying. 

 

A brother, John E. Vernon preceded him in death.

 

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 1:00 PM at the Eldon City Cemetery with Rev. Bill Fogelsong officiating with Full Military Honors presented. The family is requesting, those attending to wear face masks and practice social distancing.   

 

Memorials in his name are suggested to the First Christian Church of Eldon, MO or the Missouri Press Association.
