Toby E. Burris

Toby Edwin Burris, 58 of Eldon passed away Saturday, May 3 at St Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City, MO.  He was born October 28, 1966, in Jefferson City to Ronald Edwin and Karen Lee (Goodrick) Burris of Eldon.

Mr. Burris attended Eldon school his entire K-12 grades and graduated with honors in 1985.  He attended Lincoln University for two semesters while he worked at the Twin Cinema at Lake Ozark.  There becoming the first manager at the new cinema at the Outlet Mall and was later transferred to St. Charles to open a new quadraplex theater.  Then he started his career as a financing manger for auto sales in St. Louis and the surrounding area.  He received his certification in Auto Finance from Brown Business University at St. Charles, MO.  His career ended 2007 due to ill health, and he returned to his home town of Eldon to be with his family.  He never married.

Toby was a born again Christian and attended Mt. Pleasant Christian Church near Eldon.  In high school, he excelled in the sciences (STEM), in band, and in sports, particularly in track.  He helped to coach Little League teams while residing in St. Louis.  He was a diehard fan of the St. Louis Blues, Cards and the Missouri University Tigers teams. 

Toby is survived by his mother Karen Burris of the home; his brother, Todd Burris of Jacksonville, Florida; aunt, Susan Broski (John) of Overland Park, Kansas; aunt, Sue Miller (Ray) of Eldon; uncle, Boyd Burris (Kathy) of Eldon; step-grandmother, Dorothy Burris of Eldon.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald; his uncle, Gordon Goodrick; grandparents, Clyde and Melba Goodrick; grandfather, Basil Burris.  Many cousins and longtime friends are left to keep his memory alive.

Visitation will be Friday, May 9, 2025 from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon, MO with the Memorial Service beginning at 10:00 AM with Rev. Bill Fogelsong officiating.  Burial will be at Greenmore Memorial Gardens in Barnett, MO.

Memorials in his name are suggested to Eldon High School in memory of Toby E. Burris.
