Thelma "Serena" Uber

Thelma “Serena” Uber passed away at the age of 88 on Saturday, October 21, 2023, in Mexico, MO. Serena was the beloved daughter of the late William Emmett and Lelia Irene Shikles, born September 30, 1935, in Enon, Missouri. Serena was married on December 13, 1953, to the love of her life, J.R. Uber, who preceded her in death on July 1, 2022. 

Prior to her stroke 5 years ago, she was always busy and rarely sat down. She enjoyed taking photographs and scrapbooking her memories. She also had an insatiable sweet tooth, which led to her love of baking and desserts. She was especially devoted to her children and grandchildren and would do anything or go to any length for them and count it all a joy. There was nothing she wouldn’t do to help out family or friends. She was a very thoughtful, kind, and generous person. She was a devout Christian and faithful member of Centralia Church of Christ, never making plans without saying “if the Lord is willing.” 

Survivors include her two children E.R. Uber (Ginny) of Chandler, AZ and Cindy Phipps (Bernie) of Mexico, MO; four grandchildren, Travis (Robyn) Phipps of Mexico, MO; Allison (Brad) Nicholson of Chandler, AZ; Lindsey (Corey) Poteet of Brentwood, MO; McKenzie Uber of Chandler, AZ; four great-granddaughters, Beckett and Logan Phipps of Mexico, MO; Nora and Zoey Nicholson of Phoenix, AZ; one sister, Bonnie Reed of Branson, MO and one nephew, Michael J. Reed, Branson, Missouri. 

Serena was employed for twenty years with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and for thirty years with Naught-Naught Insurance Agency until her retirement.

Visitation will be Friday, October 27, 2023 from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon, MO. The Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM with Minister Mark White of Centralia Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at the Eldon Cemetery.
