Steve Rogers Obituary

Stephen Ray Rogers, 71, a life long resident of Eldon, Missouri passed away Sunday, October 14, 2018 at the Lee House in Eldon, Missouri. He was born April 3, 1947 in an old log cabin in off of Old Tuscumbia Road in Eldon. He was born to the late Charlie R. and Ina Juanita (Smith) Rogers.

Steve was a 1965 graduate of Kemper Military Academy in Boonville, Missouri. He married and had 2 children, Brian Matthew and Jenna Beth, who, along with his granddaughters, Linzee Nicole and Megan Elizabeth, were the pride of his life. He worked for the Missouri Department of Transportation for 24 years before his retirement in 2003.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting and studying Native American history. He spent countless hours searching the grounds of Mid-Missouri looking for artifacts such as arrowheads for which he had a special gift for finding.

Something else he also enjoyed, especially in his later years, was studying the bible. He loved to watch the Rev. Billy Graham on Television. Though he did not have a lot to give, he did donate to Billy Graham and Charles Stanley ministries. He also gave money to St. Joseph Indian School in South Dakota and St. Labre Indian School in Montana.

Steve is survived by his brother, Charles Rogers of Eldon, his son, Brian (Wyndee) Rogers of Lebanon and his daughter Jenna (Matthew) McTeer of Jefferson City; his granddaughters Linzee Rogers of Eldon and Megan Twehus of Jefferson City; his nephews Adam (Debbie) Rogers of Eldon and Jeff (Valorie) of Springfield.

Steve’s final gift was to donate his body to the University of Missouri, Department of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences, School of Medicine, and therefore a “traditional” funeral will not be done at this time. Instead, any family or friends that would like to get together for a drink and maybe share a story or two, we will be getting together at Whittle’s Pub in Eldon on Saturday, October 20th, 2018 between 3 and 5 pm.

On behalf of the entire family, we would like to thank the Lee House of Eldon for the wonderful care they gave during his stay there. Also, to Phillips Funeral Home and the Miller County Coroner for their courteous and professional care during this difficult time. And to all of those who have sent their condolences, thank you, it means a lot.

“My home is in Heaven. I’m just traveling through this world”.  Rev. Billy Graham

“The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff- they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD my whole life long.” Psalm 23
