Stephen “Steve” Lee Williams, 70 of Eldon, Missouri passed away Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Lake Regional Health Systems in Osage Beach, Missouri. He was born September 22, 1952 in Jefferson City, Missouri, the son of the late Donald and Phoebe (Bibb) Williams. Steve was a graduate of Eldon High School 1971. On June 4, 1983 in Versailles, Missouri he was united in marriage to Susan Lynn (Brizendine) Williams who survives of the home.

A brother, Richard “Rick” Williams, and a brother-in-law, Tom Schubert preceded him in death.
Steve was a Vietnam veteran, serving from July 21, 1971 to July 21, 1977 reaching the rank of AQ2. He served aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS MIDWAY CVA-41. The USS MIDWAY operated out of Tonkin Gulf. Steve was a member of the Air Search and Rescue team, jumping out of helicopters to rescue downed pilots. He participated in the evacuation of the American Embassy in Saigon, South Vietnam. After its tour in Vietnam, the USS MIDWAY returned to its base in Yokosuka, Japan, where Steve spent two years. He ended his Navy career at Key West, FL.
Upon leaving the Navy, Steve had an opportunity to be employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone, as an Installer/Repairman, working around the Lake area. Later on in his career, Steve had a chance to work inside the central offices, as a Communication Technician. He worked with many fine people, retiring after 30 plus years. He then enjoyed attending the AT&T retirees’ get togethers.
Steve was the meal planner and cook for the family. He enjoyed telephone conversations with family and friends, morning breakfast with friends, visiting with employees in stores he shopped at regularly, and attending Bibb-Williams-and Brizendine family gatherings. A special treat for Steve was “being farmer” for the Westergaard family. Through the years, Steve lovingly cared for the family pets. Steve was a faithful member and a deacon of Olean Baptist Church.
Visitation will be Friday, September 8, 2023 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon, MO. Memorial Service will be Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Phillips Funeral Home with Brother Bob Hoskins and Rev. Bill Foglesong officiating. Full Military Honors will be presented.
Private Family Interment will be held at the Eldon City Cemetery.
