Stephen Edward Nichols, age 83, of Osage Beach, Missouri, passed away on May 13, 2026. He was born on October 2, 1942, in Eldon, Missouri. Steve was the son of Earl W. Nichols and Olive Hasty Nichols.
As a teenager Steve skied and flew on a kite in the Ozark Water Ski Pageant. In high school he participated in theater, band, basketball, and was the quarterback of the football team. He graduated from School of the Osage, then attended Wentworth Military Academy. Steve joined the Navy serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Bennington, flying with an anti-submarine crew in the South China Sea during the Vietnam War.
After his discharge Steve operated a helicopter tour business in Osage Beach, then flew a helicopter for Louisiana Air Logistics in New Orleans, flying crews and supplies to oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico.
After retiring he moved home to Osage Beach. He was preceded in death by his parents. Steve is survived by one sister, Jody Nichols Newman, of Osage Beach.
A memorial service is being planned for a later date.
