Shirley Ann (Steen) Woolsey

Shirley Ann Steen Woolsey was born September 3rd, 1944, in Miller County, Missouri, and died on August 28th, 2023, in Salem, Oregon, surrounded by her husband and five adult children. Shirley was the daughter of Holmes and Elva (Boyd) Steen, the third of six siblings. 

Shirley is survived by her husband, Craig, of almost 60 years, her children, Bruce Woolsey (Aimee) of Seattle, Washington, Jewel Kaste (Michael) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Daniel Woolsey (Lisa) of Holland, Michigan, Martha King (Michael) of Corvallis, Oregon, and Lisa Box (Brad) of Salem, Oregon.  She leaves behind sixteen beloved grandchildren ranging in age from 26 to 11. 

Shirley’s remaining siblings all live in Miller County: Sharron Holder (Paul), Judy Pryor, Don Steen (Alisa) and Janie Davis (Bob).  She was predeceased by her oldest sister Sue Cates.

A life-long learner, Shirley attended school of the Osage, Ozark Bible College, and received her masters’ degree from Azusa Pacific University.  She loved to read and learn and was always working her way through a stack of books.

Shirley and Craig were in ministry in Kansas, Colorado, Texas, and Missouri before moving in 1979 to Santiago, Chile to do mission work.  Together, they planted a church and influenced hundreds of lives.  Shirley also helped start Community Bible Studies in Chile and was passionate about helping people read and understand the Bible for themselves.

Shirley’s legacy is the way she loved and championed her family and friends. Her love was constant, encouraging, fierce, and unconditional. She was loved by so many and will be deeply missed.

The family will welcome friends from 10-11am, at Ninth Street Christian Church in Eldon, with the Celebration of Life following immediately at 11am on Saturday, September 23rd, 2023.  For those unable to attend, there will be a livestream option available at www.ninthstreetcc.com/shirleywoolsey.  The link will be active permanently and can be viewed at any time.
