Sally Green Tiala Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sally Martha Borgis Green Tiala on who died peacefully on Tuesday - October 12, 2021.

Sally was born in Dearborn, Michigan in March of 1932 to Raymond and Bernice Borgis. She was raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan by her aunt and uncle, Madeline and Floyd Green.  Her husband, Lauri Tiala, fell in love with her at their work office at CBS-Hydron Division in Kalamazoo, Michigan.   They frequently danced to big band music on their dates that started in 1953 and were married in South Bend, Indiana in 1955.

Sally was a loving mother, wife, friend and social advocate with a particular passion for helping women and children.  In 1985 she led the founding of the Eldon, Missouri Community Crisis Center that aided victims of adult abuse.  She was a foster parent to several young people in need and hosted foreign exchange students from all parts of the globe.   She often took in strays, both human and animal, nursing them back to health.   An avid animal lover, the family was never without pets of all shapes and sizes.  She loved cooking lavish meals at holidays and hosting fun parties for her friends and for her children.  She had a quick sense of humor and loved to joke and laugh.  Her life was devoted to caring for all those around her.

Sally is survived by her children Toby Tiala and former wife Jennie Horner Tiala with grandchildren Kandace, Meredith, Aneka, Jared and several great grandchildren; Sylvia Tiala and husband Jim Perkins of Menomonie, Wisconsin and grandchildren Jillian Perkins and husband Fred Kreider of Minneapolis and grandson Maxwell Perkins and wife Angie Hellman Perkins of Mountlake Terrace, Washington; and Crystal Tiala and her husband, Bob Fisher.

On Friday, November 5th we will celebrate Sally’s life and the impact she had on her family and friends while she was with us. The celebration will be in keeping with the friendly, casual, optimistic and easy way that she lived. The event will be at Bethany Lutheran Church in Eldon, Missouri and will begin at 10:00 am. Sally always requested that those at her funeral have a party so food and refreshments will be provided. It will be a casual affair and we will make time for people to say a few words.  We understand that for some there is a considerable distance to travel, so there are tentative plans to live stream the service.  For those of you who can make it, we look forward to seeing you and reminiscing on shared adventures and funny stories.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Sally Tiala to your local pet shelter or the The Neighbors at Dunn County (https://neighborsdc.org/donations/).

We will always carry her memory in our hearts.

Her funeral service will be livestreamed at this address: https://www.facebook.com/events/275984151061432/
