Ruth Ellen (McMurrin) Kittel

Ruth Ellen Kittel, a beloved matriarch and a gentle spirit, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 27, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on March 10, 1936, in Grand Island, Nebraska, Ruth was the cherished daughter of John and Elizabeth McMurrin. She married the love of her life, Wayne Kittel Sr., on May 1, 1954, and together they shared nearly 48 years of happiness, adventures, and unwavering companionship until Wayne’s passing. Their union was a testament to enduring love, built on mutual respect, shared values, and a deep commitment to their family.

A devoted mother, Ruth found her greatest joy in her children, Su (and Wes) Surface, Vicki Maden, Wayne Kittel Jr., John (and Diane) Kittel, and Melinda (and Charlie)

Gutierrez. Her nurturing spirit and boundless love provided them with a foundation of strength and compassion. Ruth’s legacy continues through her 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and countless great-great-grandchildren.

Ruth’s heart was as expansive as her family, and her love for animals was a defining aspect of her life. She cherished her small farm, which was always teeming with life and joy. Her gentle hands and kind words tended to every creature under her care, and her farm was a sanctuary of peace and harmony.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Wayne, her parents John and Elizabeth, and her sister Betty, Ruth's life was also marked by enduring bonds of sisterhood with her surviving sister, Donna Grabill, who shared in her joys and supported her through life’s challenges.

In keeping with Ruth’s wishes, a private ceremony will be held to honor her life and legacy.  May Ruth McMurrin Kittel rest in eternal peace, her spirit forever woven into the hearts of those she loved and who loved her in return.
