Robert Atwell Obituary

Robert Loren Atwell, of Olean, Mo. departed this life for his eternal home on November 6, 2025 following a valiant 2+ year cancer battle.

Robert was born on July 17, 1967 to J.R. and Nina (Burks) Atwell in Sedalia, Mo.  The family moved back to Miller County shortly thereafter, where Robert lived the majority of his 58 years.  He was a blond-headed, blue-eyed bundle of energy that brought his family countless moments of delight and entertainment.

Robert graduated from Eldon High School in 1985 and began a life-long career in the family restaurant business.  He was the successful Eldon KFC/Taco Bell franchisee owner/operator. He provided jobs, mentoring and friendship to hundreds of community members for more than 25 years.  Running a tight ship, he ensured the business survived and thrived by serving great food in a clean environment.  Most would say he was a "little rough around the edges" and definitely opinionated, but beneath that tough exterior was a man with a tender heart of gold that would bend over backwards to help out anyone and everyone whenever he saw a need.  His generosity to the community, employees, friends and family was admirable and beyond compare.

To know Robert was to know the perfect example of an animal lover. He couldn't stand to walk past a stray! He made sure to give them all a home with premium care and love, sparing no expense to feed them and provide veterinary services.

Robert was a devoted family man and supported his children in all their pursuits.  Whether it was band, football, softball, track, FFA, dance recitals or any other activity, he was their biggest cheerleader.  His children describe him as stubborn, stoic and hard-working, but most importantly he let them know he loved them and made them a priority in his life.

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved father and several extended family members.  He leaves behind his wife, Christina, and daughter, Madison (of the home), son Bryan and fiancee Christina (Olean), daughter Halla and companion Micheal (Springfield), son Brandon (Olean), 2 grandchildren (Kendra and J.R.), mother Nina (Jefferson City), sisters Lorna Mundwiller (Rolla) and Jody McCarty (Jefferson City), mother-in-law Sharon Phillips (Eldon), along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Following a family reunion in early October, Robert was talking about how wonderful it would be to have the chance to spend the weekend with all the grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that have gone on before us......just to talk with them again and relive some of the great memories.  Little did we know that Robert's life journey would be complete just a short month later.  But we are comforted knowing he is attending a reunion that will last, not just a weekend, but for all eternity.  Until we meet again, save a seat for us at the table.....
