Merrie Williams Obituary

Merrie Ann Williams, 62, of Lake Ozark, Missouri, passed away on April 8, 2023 at home.

She was born on March 6, 1961 in Kansas City, MO, to the late Robert and Gayle (Mills) Woodson. She graduated from Raytown High School in 1979, Central Missouri State University in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a minor in math, and she later earned a master’s in curriculum and instruction from CMSU in 1986.  She was united in marriage to Michael Williams on May 31, 1986, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Warrensburg, MO.

Merrie was a valued member of her church and school communities. She played flute and hand bells for church services and served as member of the Parish Board of Education, Sunday school coordinator, and as a Stephen Ministries counselor.  She taught for a total of 40 years, served as an instructional coach, became nationally board certified in 2004, and received Osage Teacher of the Year and Outstanding Elementary Educator of the MSTA Central Region, both in 2007.

Merrie loved scrapbooking, creating and sending handmade cards to her family and friends, and cheering for her Kansas City Chiefs.

She is survived by:

Husband Michael Williams of Lake Ozark, MO

Siblings Elizabeth Jinkins (Mark) of Pleasant Hill, MO; Robert Woodson (Cindy) of Independence, MO

Children Aaron Williams (Abigail) of Overland Park, KS; Aidan Williams of Charlotte, NC

Grandchild Charlotte Williams of Overland Park, KS.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Christ the King Lutheran Church of Lake Ozark, MO.  The funeral service will begin at 7:00 PM with Pastor Ron Lehenbauer and Pastor Kris Morris officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name are suggested to the Osage Foundation, P.O. Box 1960, Lake Ozark, MO 65049, to support the Merrie Williams Scholarship for graduating high school seniors.
