Mary Hartman Obituary

Mary Ann (Johns) Hartman, 69, passed away August 18, 2014, with her family by her side. She was born November 21, 1944, in Hooker, MO, to Clyde and Elsie Ethel (Helm) Johns. She attended school in Hooker and Waynesville, MO. She married Lonnie W. Hartman, February 14, 1979. Mary retired from Central Bank after 25 years of service in 2006. She would later return working part-time at Central Motor Bank, until being diagnosed with brain cancer in October 2013.

Mary was a member of First Baptist Church. In her youth she enjoyed singing gospel songs, harmonizing with her mother and sisters. Her love of music continued, singing and playing the guitar with various local country & western bands in the ‘70’s. She and her husband, Lonnie, were avid supporters of the Hoof-A-Thon charity for Cystic Fibrosis. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family – especially her grand and great-grandchildren, decorating her home for the holidays and flower gardening.

She is survived by her husband, Lonnie W. Hartman of Russellville: brothers Wilmer (Mary) Johns of St. Roberts, Raymond (Debbie) Johns of Dixon, James (Theresa) Johns of Scott City; sisters Edith Nelson of Marion, IN, Bettie Johns and Barbara (J.R.) Taggart of Jefferson City; daughter and spouse, Lisa D. (Backues) and Douglas R. Backes of Rowlett, TX; grand-daughters and spouses, Heather (Backes) and Matthew Harris, Rachel (Backes) and Ryan Welch of Carrollton, TX; great-grandsons Joshua and Dillon Harris; several nieces and nephews; her beloved dog, “Sissy”. Also surviving, her first husband Neal J. Backues

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Clyde and Elsie Ethel (Helm) Johns; brother, Ernest Johns.

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church Jefferson City, MO on Thursday From 4 to 7 pm.

Services will be held on Friday, 10:00 am at the church with the Rev. Doyle Sager officiating. Burial will be at Enloe Cemetery, Russellville, MO. Memorials are suggested to the family C/o Phillips Funeral Home, 211 S. Oak, California, MO 65018
