Mark D. Hoffman

Mark D. Hoffman, 80, of Eldon, Missouri passed away Monday, September 9, 2024 at Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles, Missouri.  Born October 23, 1943 in Dakota City, Iowa, Mark was the son of the late Herman and Ida (Kuchta) Hoffman.  On February 24, 1968 in Humbolt, Iowa, he married Leone (Ralph) Hoffman who survives of the home.

Grandchildren, Jacob Z. Hoffman of Fort Bliss, El Paso, TX; Jenna M. Hoffman of Jefferson City, MO

Brother Paul J. Hoffman of Omaha, NE

Along with his parents, a sister, Rose Marie (Hoffman) Rahbain preceded him in death.

Mark graduated with a Bachelor’s in Education in February of 1968 from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, MO.  He accepted a teaching job from Dr. Lyle Hensley through the Eldon School District.  He earned his Master’s Degree in Education in 1975 from CMSU. 

Mark enjoyed spending his summers working as a Rifle Director and Wilderness Director at a boy’s camp in Minnesota called Camp Foley.  Mark could fix anything from the toaster to the baler.  He had a few head of cattle with Ray Ahart always willing to assist him.  He worked many summers at the Conoco Station in Eldon working with Kenny Hicks and Gail Morris.  Mark helped build his home while employed by Raymond Enloe and eventually moved into the home on Sept. 9, 1976. 

In the summer of 1979, and many years to follow, he worked for Erickson’s Candy and in the fall took on the walnut hulling business where he met many new friends.  Starting in 1988 he worked with the Branstetter’s where he harvested fescue seed and baled hay.  

In May of 1996 he retired from the Eldon School System and in August of 1998 he began teaching at Helias in Jefferson City, MO.  Even after retirement, in his heart he never stopped working.  Mark was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Eldon, MO. 

Mark was very proud of his two children, son Jeffrey retired as a Major after twenty years serving in the USAF, and daughter Rhonda obtained her PHD in 1997 and has co-authored a text book, The Horse.

Visitation is Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Eldon, MO with a Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 AM with Rev. Simon Kanyike officiating.  Burial will follow at Dooley Cemetery.

Memorials in his name are suggested to Eldon Meals on Wheels and the Eldon High School Academic Program.
