Linford Hugh "Lynn" Thornton, 91, Passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Columbia Manor Care Center.
Lynn was born September 23, 1920 Son of William Hugh and Juanita Wingate-Thornton. He was married to Mary Jane Palmer who preceded him in death. He married Dorothy McKee (Heying) on April 22, 1978 and she survives. Lynn was a member of St. George Catholic church until moving to Columbia where he attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a member of the AM Vets # 106, Eagles #2730, American Legion post 2012, Veterans of Foreign Wars Columbia and Hermann Posts and Columbia Elks Lodge 594.
Lynn enjoyed traveling across the country. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors, and socializing with friends in the afternoon at the aforementioned clubs.
Lynn was a WWII veteran serving with the United States Army 91st infantry division and fought in North Africa and in Italy. He was the recipient of 3 bronze stars and many other service medals.
Lynn is survived by his wife Dorothy of the home, 3 sons Steven Dale Thornton, Samuel Collins McKee, and Gary Ray McKee. 5 daughters Mary Lynn Bourcard, Cheryl Diane Hillebrand, Lana Jo Haeffner, Sandra Kay McKee and Michele Cecile Cordray. One brother Richard Mason Thornton, 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one Great-Great Grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and 3 sisters Katie Maxell, Jean Branding, and Norma McCabe.
Memorials are suggested to any veteran's assistance group or the Central Missouri Honor Flight.
