Lena Stone Obituary

Eldon, MO – Lena A. (Martin) Stone, age 85, passed into God’s hands on July 12, 2021, after suffering
from the complications of Alzheimer’s disease. She was reunited, in heaven with her husband Willis
“Junior” Stone.
Lena was born on September 7, 1935 in West Aurora, MO, the daughter of William Mathias Martin and
Bessie Jane (Upton) Martin. She had eight brothers and sisters. Lena was raised on a farm near Rocky
Mount, MO. She graduated from Eldon High School. Eventually, she met the love of her life, Willis JR.
Stone on a blind date after he returned as a POW from the Korean War. They were married on July 31,
1954.
They raised three children: Lisa, Howard and Buck. The Stone family eventually grew into a wonderful
legacy which include, a daughter and son in law, Lisa and Greg Bartley of Kansas City, sons and daughter
in laws Howard and Debbie Stone of Eldon, Mo, and Buck and Tammy Stone of Eldon, MO. Six
Grandchildren: Jessica, Nick, Todd, Tara, Morgan, and Malory. Six Great Grandchildren: Ethan, Hope,
Addilyn, Olivia, Collin, Jedediah, and one more on the way. Junior passed away on October 27, 2011.
Lena was a lifelong member of the Union Baptist Church, Rocky Mount, MO. She was a devoted wife, a
wonderful mother, a tireless housewife, an Oat’s driver for Miller County, substitute mail carrier, a small
convenience store owner, and at one time, raced on Jefferson City Speedway. Her favorite pastime was
cooking. Lena was known for her cream pies and fried chicken.
Lena will be remembered lovingly by all who knew her.
Visitation will be on Friday, July 16, 2021 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon,
Missouri. The Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 17, 2012 at 10:00 AM, also at Phillips Funeral
Home with Johnny Martin and Steve Foley. Interment will follow at the Eldon City Cemetery. A small
luncheon will be held Eldon Community Center, following the Interment.
Memorials are suggested to the: Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.
