Kent Schmidt Obituary

Kent Alvin Schmidt, 65, of Russellville, Missouri passed away Friday evening, September 25, 2020, at SSM Health, St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City, Missouri having battled complications of the Coronavirus for two weeks.  Kent was born February 19, 1955, in Sterling, Kansas to the late Alvin and Ida May (Spurgeon) Schmidt of Raymond, Kansas.  When he was a year old, his family left Kansas to operate a dairy near Wheatland, Missouri.  The family moved to the Eldon community when he was eight.

Kent graduated from Eldon High School in 1973 and Lincoln University in 1977.  Until his retirement, Kent worked as a chemist on the Lincoln University Farms while also raising beef cattle on his own farms.  On April 18, 1982, Kent married Donna Kliethermes of Olean, Missouri.  They have three children: Tarin Gump and husband, Rob, of Russellville; Tyler Schmidt also of Russellville; and Jordyn Schmidt of California, Missouri.  Other immediate family includes his sister, Kay Webery, and husband, Darrell, of Eldon; a niece, Denae Martilla (Webery) and husband, Cory, and their three children of Dallas; a niece, Stefanie Webery of Kansas City; a nephew, Christopher Webery, and wife, Kylie, and their son of Eldon.  Kent’s in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends were all important to him as well.

Kent liked good food and a good laugh, sports, and memes on Facebook.  He often did anonymous acts of kindness to help others in need.  He truly enjoyed farming and being with family and friends.  Most of all, he especially loved being with and teasing his three grandchildren: Sawyer, Rowyn and Vayda Gump.  While his children attended High Point Elementary, Kent served two terms on the school board.  He worshipped at Blue Springs Baptist Church and trusted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 1, 2020, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon.  Funeral Service will be Friday, October 2, 2020, at 10:00 AM at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon with Brother Lonnie Simpson officiating.  Burial will follow at the Eldon City Cemetery.  Memorials in his name are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
