Hadley Wolfrum Obituary

Hadley Edmund Wolfrum, 82, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away on Nov. 21, 2012, at Trinity Nursing Center following a hemorrhagic stroke on January 25, 2012.

He was born February 23, 1930 in rural Concordia, MO to Joseph Emil and Amelia (Rehkop) Wolfrum. In 1940, the family moved from near Boonville, MO to a farm in the Syracuse and Florence area where he graduated from Syracuse H.S. in 1948. Hadley was baptized in the United Church of Christ of Billingsville and confirmed at St. John's UCC, Florence, MO.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and after basic training at Lackland AFB in TX he was trained as a dental technician at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Michigan. He was then stationed at Forbes AFB, Topeka, KS, where he also began college. In 1960 he received a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kansas, and was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City, for 30 years.

He was married on June 5, 1955, to Wanda Mae Hamilton of Topeka, KS, who survives at Trinity Nursing Center. He is survived by one son, "Chris" Wolfrum of the home, and one daughter, Alice (Barry) Steger, parents of Alina, Arianna, and Jacob, all of Borger, TX. One sister, Ruth Schmidt, survives in Tipton, MO, and his niece Charlene (Michael) Nash, parents of Steven and David Nash, Bloomfield, IA. He was predeceased by one brother, Marvin Emil Wolfrum, Nov. 18, 1948. Surviving in Topeka, KS, is a brother-in-law, Duane (Inez) Hamilton and Duane's nephew, David (Barbara) Rake.

He was a member of Shawnee United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer of his Sunday School class. In addition to serving the church and caring for family, he spent time being involved in city council meetings and researching genealogy.

Funeral services will be held on November 26, 2012, at Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, KS, and at Roll Funeral Home in California, MO. Locally, visitation will be at 1:30 - 2:00 and service at 2:00 with the Rev. Howard Ellis officiating. Music will be by the Rohrbach brothers. Burial will be in the Rohrbach Cemetery.
