Gregory Benne, 77, of Eldon, Missouri passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in St. Louis on October 25, 1944, son of Catherine (Murphy) and Vernon Benne.
He served in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1967 serving on the U.S.S. Constellation. He was stationed in the Philippines, traveled to Japan, Hong Kong and Vietnam.
He was married in Abilene, Texas on July 15, 1967 to Jennifer Connally, daughter of Wendell and Edna Connally.
Greg was a diesel mechanic and owned Benne’s Truck & Auto for several years. After closing his business, he began over the road trucking and often referred to himself as a “professional tourist”. When his children began their own families, he retired from trucking and changed his handle from “Shade Tree” to “PaPa”.
He is survived by his wife Jennifer, four daughters, Angela Myers (Brian) of Eldon, MO; Wendy Benne of Jefferson City, MO; Paula Mislevich (Wade) of Eldon, MO; Kimberly Benne Wood of Eldon, MO; nine grandchildren, Brian Kronk (Allie); Mark Kronk (Angie); Amy Kronk (Mikey); Michael Mislevich (Taylor); Levi Mislevich; Nathan Mislevich (Clare); Annie Benne; Jodie Wood; Callie Wood, five great-grandchildren, Kolton & Kelby Kronk; Georgia & Ava Kronk; Kayda Jane Mislevich, brother, Michael Benne (Pam) of Camdenton, and several nieces and nephews, David Benne (Bertha) of AR; Shanna Hill (Bill) of TX; Rhonda Hein (Vince) of WA; Trisha Fry (Bill) of WA; Nicole Benne of Camdenton, MO
Along with his parents, a brother, Dave Benne, a sister, Joan Pritchard, and a nephew, Tim Benne preceded him in death.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 30, 2021 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon, MO with a Memorial Service beginning at 4:00 PM with Deacon Gary Christoff officiating. Full Military Honors will follow the service.
Memorials in his name are suggested to Hospice Compassus or the American Cancer Society.
