Evelyn (Hart) Mormann

Evelyn (Hart) Mormann, 97, of Mary’s Home, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Rock Island Village. 

Evelyn was born on August 18, 1927, on the family farm in Mary’s Home to John C. and Mary W. “Minnie” (Bungart) Hart, both of whom preceded her in death. On November 7, 1944, she married the love of her life, Fred Mormann, at Our Lady of the Snows Church in Mary’s Home. 

The couple celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary in November 2019 with family and friends, just three months before Fred passed. Evelyn’s death leaves a profound void in the hearts of her family and friends, yet they take comfort knowing that she is now reunited with Fred, and that their love, which spanned over 75 beautiful years, will continue to shine through eternity.

Evelyn was a devoted homemaker, always with a kind heart and a generous spirit. She found great joy in cooking, baking, and sewing for those she loved. Her family will forever treasure the delicious meals she lovingly prepared, especially during the busy hay and harvest seasons, when she made sure the farmhands and Fred always had a hearty meal at the end of the day. When she wasn’t in the kitchen or garden, you’d likely find Evelyn sitting in her chair watching the St. Louis Cardinals play baseball.

Her love of the land was evident in her lifelong passion for gardening and quilting. She crafted beautiful quilts, often donating them to the Annual Parish Picnic in Mary’s Home, and enjoyed sharing them with family members. But Evelyn was more than just a homemaker; she was a hands-on helper on the farm, milking cows, feeding chickens, and delighting in bottle-feeding the replacement heifers—a task she cherished deeply.

Evelyn’s legacy of love, warmth, and hard work lives on through her children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. She is survived by her son, Bill Mormann (Nancy) of Mary’s Home; her daughter, Diane Birdsong (Terry) of Gold Hill, North Carolina; her daughter-in-law, Diane Mormann of Jefferson City; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 3 great- great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Fred; daughter, Judy Bashore; and son, Roger Mormann. Evelyn was the last surviving member of her family, and was preceded in death by her siblings: Laverne, Sylvia, Vivian, Lucille, Lloyd, Earl, Elmer “Jim”, Kenneth “Jack”, and Osby “Oz”.

A Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025, followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Snows School Gymnasium in Mary’s Home, MO, with Father John Schmitz officiating. Graveside services will be held at Our Lady of the Snows Cemetery, where Evelyn will be laid to rest beside Fred.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Compassus, a compassionate organization that provided unwavering support and comfort to Fred, Evelyn, and their family during their time of need.
