Eugene LaVern Christensen, 84, of Olean, Missouri passed away Friday, July 5, 2025 at Sweet Bye-N-Bye Care Facility in Salem, Oregon. He was born March 16, 1941 in
Imogene, Iowa the son of the late Lavern Charles and Elizabeth Estella (Wood) Christensen. He joined the U.S. Navy in July 1959. He was honorably discharged at the
rank of Fireman E-3 in June 1963 and transferred to the Naval Reserve. He continued his career with the U.S. government until he retired in March 1996 from Eielson AFB, Alaska. On May 13, 1961 he was united in marriage to Gwendora Heppard.
Survivors include: Daughters, Angela Bolliger (Steven) of Oregon; Cynthia Dassance of Oregon. Grandsons, David, Ren, and Eric Easton; Granddaughter, Caitlyn Lopez.
Along with his parents, his wife of 60 years, Gwendora Christensen, two brothers, Hans William Christensen and Charles Lee Christensen, and his son, James Dwayne Christensen preceded him in death.
Eugene was well known for his contributions to the Lions Club and VFW and his BBQ skills.
Graveside services with military honors will be Friday, October 3, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Big Rock Cemetery with Minister Chris Reynolds officiating. Memorials in his name are suggested to the Donor’s Choice.
