Douglas Wayne Edwards passed away on January 13, 2023, from cancer of the throat which led to complications of the lung. He was born November 27, 1950 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of the late Earl David and Agnes Willetta (Paul) Edwards. He is survived by daughters Stacy Edwards and Amanda Edwards as well as siblings Darryl Edwards, Dwight Edwards, Sheryl Edwards, and Suzanne Wallace. He is also survived by his lifelong friend Ernesto Ferro, Jr who was with him in the hospital up to the day he passed.
Douglas was a hardworking master carpenter, a Vietnam War Veteran serving in the armed forces of the United States as a specialist four, from 19 August 1970 to 1 May 1972, and a lover of nature and exploration. He will be missed and remembered for the many lives he touched through these journeys in life. His family hopes he is riding his dream Harley through the heavenly golden gates and playing on the blissful clouds in the farmland he grew up around. Even though he kept mainly to himself, he would never hesitate to lend a helping hand when the situation called for it. Douglas, we are happy that you are home-free and painless as the last months up to your death were a lot of suffering. We will always love and miss you until we can meet again. In your own words- “what a ride”.
Graveside Services to bury the ashes for Douglas will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 10:00 AM at the Eldon City Cemetery with Full Military Honors presented.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon. In lieu of memorial flowers, donations may be given to the local VA center in Missouri.
