Daniel Berendzen Obituary

Daniel Francis Berendzen, 76, of Wardsville, Missouri passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Miller County Care & Rehabilitation Center in Tuscumbia, Missouri, after a long battle with Frontotemporal Dementia.  He was born November 27, 1946 in St. Elizabeth, Missouri, the son of the late Clem John and Martha C. (Bax) Berendzen.  On April 20, 1968 in Mary’s Home, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Carol Leona (Koetting) Berendzen who survives.

Children: Jill Berendzen of Camdenton, MO; Jay Berendzen (Sarah) of Hartsburg, MO; Jon Berendzen (Karly) of Ashland, MO; Jeremy Berendzen (Victoria) of Mary’s Home, MO

Thirteen Grandchildren: Danielle Sanford (Travis), Stephanie Goodloe, Shelby Berendzen-McClain (Trevor), Jacob Berendzen (Erika), Ian Berendzen, Sophie, Kathryn, Abigail & Isabelle Berendzen, Kaylin, Dean, Margaret & Angeline Berendzen

Five Great-Grandchildren: Leah, Mackenlie & Audrie Sanford, Zaiden Dampier, Violet Berendzen

Siblings: Dolores Schulte (Melvin) of Jefferson City, MO; Tom Berendzen (Maria) of Clearwater FL, Dorothy Kempker (Ed) of Jefferson City, MO; Darlene Wallis of Eugene, MO; Rosanna Weidinger (Bill) of Eldon, MO; Marsha Hayes of Jefferson City, MO; Mary Jo Fox of Brazito, MO

Sisters-in-law: Ann Berendzen of Centertown, MO; Betty Berendzen of Holts Summit, MO

Two brothers: Jim & Bill Berendzen, and brothers-in-law, Ron Wallis, Dennis Hayes & Ron Fox preceded him in death.

Dan was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville, MO and the Knights of Columbus Council #8399 of Wardsville/Osage Bend.  He was employed as Director of Operations with the Missouri State Senate for twenty-four years until his retirement in 2001.  Prior to that he was employed with Pitney-Bowes in Jefferson City, MO.  Dan enjoyed golf, bowling, horseshoes, washers, cornhole, gardening, baseball and softball, as well as being an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.

A Celebration of Life will be Thursday, October 5, 2023 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the Our Lady of the Snows Parish Center in Mary’s Home, MO with a Prayer Service beginning at 4:00 PM.

Funeral Mass will be Friday, October 6, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Mary’s Home, MO with Rev. Ignazio Medina officiating. 

Per Dan’s wishes, his body has been cremated and Interment will be at Our Lady of the Snows Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Stanislaus Catholic School, Wardsville, MO, Our Lady of the Snows Catholic School, Mary’s Home, MO, Miller County Care and Rehabilitation Center, Tuscumbia, MO, or the Wardsville Knights of Columbus Council #8399 Building Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction and care of Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon, MO.
