Carolyn Guyon Obituary

Carolyn (Jungmeyer) Guyon, 82, of Eldon, Missouri passed away at her home on Sunday, August 24, 2025 surrounded by her loved ones and her pets.  She was born September 25, 1942 in Eldon, Missouri to Roy Elmer and Rosa Hempel Thacker.  She was the first of five children.

She attended one room country school houses at Skinner and Mt. Pleasant before starting 5th grade in Eldon.  One week after graduating high school in 1960 she began working as a long-distance operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone.  When the seasonal layoff began after Labor Day, she transferred to St. Louis for full time employment, packing her meager belongings in a cardboard box and riding the train to the big city.

While there she married Glen Jungmeyer of Russellville and had a daughter, Lisa Gaye.  Upon the death of her father, they returned to Eldon to be of help to her mother and siblings.  After they started Jungmeyer Heating and Air Conditioning, she quit the phone company and assisted in the operation of the company.  Another daughter, Sheila Rene was born.

In 1973 Carolyn got her real estate license, one of the first in Eldon to do so.  She worked in that field for 30 years, the last operating her own Showtime Realty Company.  After 20 years of marriage, she and Glen parted ways.  So began a new life as a cook on tow boats.  She would work 30 days on the boat and then have 30 days off.  The tow boats would travel up and down the Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee and Arkansas rivers hauling oil, grain, coal or asphalt to New Orleans, Chicago, Houston or West Virginia.  It was kind of like being a truck driver on the water.  There she met Captain Harron “Frogg” Guyon.  They were wed 20 years before his passing in 2007.

Survivors include, sister, Evelyn Brumley of Eldon, MO; Sheila (Devin Bruns), Katie and Keira Bruns & Kaelan Jungmeyer of Lee’s Summit, MO; Lisa (Kevin Kemna) Karli, Raquel & Riley Kemna of High Point, MO; Nieces & nephews and very special friends Curtis Tellman, Glenda Dowdy and Nikki Bonnot and her precious pets, Pearl & Ruby.

Along with her parents and husband, brothers, Howard, Daniel and Gerald Thacker and brother-in-law, Jim Brumley preceded her in death.

Carolyn loved animals, especially horses and dogs, country music, playing cards and spending time with friends.  She had a generous heart and would lend a helping hand to unsuspecting people.  A better friend would be hard to find and she will be sorely missed.

Visitation will be Friday, August 29, 2025 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon, MO with the Funeral Service beginning at 4:00 PM.  Burial will follow at Dooley Cemetery.
