Carl "Kent" Hodel

Carl “Kent” Hodel, 64 of Eldon, died May 13 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, MO. Kent was born June 30, 1958 in Tuscumbia, MO, the son of Carl Dalton and Florence Evelyn (Chidester) Hodel.  A lifelong resident of Eldon, Kent graduated from Eldon High School in 1976. 

Firefighting was Kent’s passion.  He volunteered with the Moreau Fire Department while still in high school.  Professionally he worked for Lake Ozark Fire Department where he was certified as a rescue diver and an EMT.

Kent was in car sales for Burlingame Pontiac.  He also worked many years as a glazier in his own business as well as with businesses including Enloe Glass, Gary’s Glass and Carl’s Cutting Edge Glass.  He enjoyed riding dirt bikes with his son and, more recently, could be seen tooling around town in his golf cart with his dog, Perro.  He was an active part of his neighborhood.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Teresa.  He is survived by his son, Carl of Eldon, MO; Carl’s mother, Rhonda Buerge of McPherson, KS; a brother, Tony (Kate) of Roach MO; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, May 19, 2023 from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon, MO with the Funeral Service beginning at 3:00 PM with Chris Reynold, Minister officiating.  Burial will follow at the Eldon City Cemetery. 

Memorials in his name are suggested to the Dogwood Animal Shelter.
