Big Al W. Jones

Al W. Jones, 76, of Eldon, died December 12, 2023. He was born September 5, 1947 in Mount Pleasant, a son of the late Leo Jones and Mary Orlena Wetzel Jones.
He is survived by nephew Ron Jones (Tina, Kim) of Eldon, niece, Ronda and Rick Wry (Jason, Jeremy, Sam) of Barnett, and niece, Debbie Jones (Nick, Tyler) of Eldon.
6 great nephews and 4 great nieces.
Al was a lifelong resident of the Eldon area and graduated from Eldon R1 School in 1965. He then attended the University of Missouri at Rolla and graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1969. After graduation, Big Al worked for MODOT as a Demolition Specialist during construction of the new Highway 54. In 1973, he began working for Paramount Wholesale Distributors Liquor Company and remained there until his retirement.
Big Al played softball for several years and was an avid golfer. One of his favorite things to do was playing Gin Rummy at the clubhouse with his buddies, Rob Wolf, Rob Frazee, Mark Fenner, Myron Scott, George Miller, Rodney Fitzpatrick and Bob Ward. He enjoyed the outdoors and was never at a loss for something to do. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Jones, sister-in-law Joan Jones and nephew Karl D. Jones.
Friends will be received from 10:00 - 12:00, Saturday, January 13 at Phillips Funeral Home
In Eldon. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
