Virgil Smith, 86, went to be with the Lord on Monday evening, August 27, 2018 at his residence in Henley, Missouri surrounded by his family. He was born March 7, 1932 in Henley, Missouri, the son of the late Jasper and Armelia (Wills) Smith. Following his mother’s passing, shortly after his birth, Jasper married Una May Wills when Virgil was four years old and she became his special mother. On December 9, 1951 in Jefferson City, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Vera (Scruggs) Smith who survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father and step mother.
Virgil was a United States Army Veteran, serving in the Korean War. He had formerly worked for Roark Aluminum, owned and operated a Pony Express delivery service, and partnered with Ed Miller in starting Miller-Smith Auto Supply, before founding Smith Paper & Janitorial Supply with his wife in 1971. He was a longtime member of the Hickory Hill Baptist Church and he enjoyed his time working his farm.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Phillips Funeral Home
Funeral Service will be Friday, August 31, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Hickory Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Hogard and Pastor David Ford officiating.
Burial will follow at Hickory Hill Cemetery with Full Military Honors presented by the Eldon VFW Post #2442 of Eldon, MO.
Memorials in his name are suggested to Hickory Hill Baptist Church or Hospice Compassus.
