Josephine Pope Obituary

Josephine Pope passed away June 21, 2019. She was born in Woodlawn TX on December 23, 1920, the only child of Joe W. & Sallie Callaway Mills. She was married in Marshall TX to Theo Pope in 1941, who preceded her in death in 1999. They traveled extensively, resided in St. Louis MO for 20 years and Kansas City MO for ten years.

 

Since 1956, they had a vacation home at the Lake of the Ozarks, where the family enjoyed boating, water-skiing, fishing, and entertaining.

 

 In 1968, she co-founded Pope Boat Sales on the North Shore of the Lake of the Ozarks, moved to the lake in 1973, and continued her career as a pioneer in the boating industry with her son, Ted until her retirement.

 

She was a member of the Eldon United Methodist Church, played bridge, enjoyed traveling, especially playing blackjack, and was a former member of the Newcomers & Longtimers Club.

 

She is survived by two children, Sally (Boyce) Stalter of Huntsville TX and Ted (Mary) Pope of Rocky Mount MO; as well as five grandchildren Ted (Carol) Cole of Ft. Lauderdale FL, Dean Stalter of Houston TX, Kent Cole of Huntsville TX, Jody Pope of Austin TX and Rocky Pope of Brentwood MO.

 

Private services under the direction of Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon MO and Sullivan Funeral Home, Marshall TX with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Woodlawn TX.
