Helen Renken-Vittur Obituary

 

Helen “Nancy” Renken-Vittur, 87, of Eldon, Missouri passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Lee House of Eldon, Missouri.  She was born October 2, 1930 in Boonville, Missouri, the daughter of the late Claude and Helen (Campbell) Renken.(And later adopted by the late Blanche Crum)  She was united in marriage to Robert Vittur who preceded her in death.

Jeanie Benedict-Yates of Lake Ozark, MO; John Benedict of Washington, MO; Geri Wiseman (Jim) of Jefferson City, MO; Howard Rea (Marcia) of Wildwood, MO; and other nephews from around the country.

One brother, Jim Renken, two sisters, Wanda Benedict and Juanita Rea, one niece, Cheryl Anderson, and one nephew, Chuck Rea preceded her in death.

 

Nancy AKA “Auntie” was an accomplished vocalist, pianist and artist.  Nancy began her career at the Municipal Opera in St. Louis, then moved to New York City where she composed numerous songs that were published by Southern Music and Capitol Records.  She later signed with Shaw Music where she recorded radio commercials and worked with well-known singers, which included Jimi Hendrix, Tony Bennett, Mitch Miller, Eydie Gorme, Steve Lawrence and Johnny Horton.  Her career then took her to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where she performed at the Pier 66 in the revolving lounge called the Pier Top for over 20 years. After retirement and moving back to Eldon, she volunteered her musical talents to nursing homes and churches throughout mid-Missouri.  When not singing or playing the piano, Nancy created beautiful artwork that she loved sharing with family and friends. 

 

Visitation will be Saturday, February 24, 2018 from 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon, MO with a Funeral Mass following at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Eldon, MO with Father Alex Gabriel officiating.  Private Family Interment will be held at the Olean Cemetery at a later date.

 

Memorials in her name are suggested to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
