James L. "Jim" Sidebottom and I were drafted into the U.S. Army on the same day, Feb. 8, 1967, from Miller County, MO. My recollection is we were, along with several other Miller County boys, picked up by bus at the Tuscumbia courthouse and were transported by bus to the induction center in St. Louis. I believe we overnighted there and were sworn in the next day (Feb. 8) and were transported by bus to Fort Leonard Wood, MO. I have a copy of our orders that day that show that Jim's and my assigned service numbers are in exact sequence, mine being US56585596 and his being US56585597. Other's from Miller County that I remember inducted in the group that day were Jimmy J. Meyers and Robert J. Holtmeyer. Jim and I were separated in different training units at Ft. Wood and I did not see him again. But I recognized him instantly from his photograph.

My sincere condolences to Jim's family. He served his Country honorably. He stood up during an unpopular war when many didn't . I salute him and will always remember him.
